Mobile Pantry at Mizpah United Methodist Church in Walkerton, VA is a program from the
Central Virginia Food Bank. Currently sixteen metro,
urban and rural sites are being served by the Mobile Pantry truck.
About fifteen volunteers are needed each month to help with set up, give out food, and clean up at the end of the day. We have a good core group of volunteers but all of them cannot be there every month so more volunteers will always be needed. We will continue to be outside during the cold and hot months so some hardy souls will be needed. Additional persons who can help carry bags of groceries to people's cars are especially needed. Volunteers are asked to arrive at the church between 12:15 and 12:30 p.m. We will finish by 2:30 p.m.Vouchers to receive the food are distributed through the Department. of Social Services in King & Queen and King William counties. We distribute food on the first Wednesday of each month, between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. We began in July serving 78 families in the 106 degree temperature. In October, we had risen to a family count of 172.
