Our Field of Dreams
“...if you build it, they will come….”
We have completed our access ramp and are ready to dedicate it for use. We will have a Dedication Party on Sat., Sept. 20th at 5:00 p.m. Bring your own picnic supper or have a hot dog, chips, cookies, and drink on us. Spread a blanket on the lawn or bring your lawn chairs.
Please invite your family, friends, and neighbors to join us. We invite the Walkerton area community to join with us for supper and some good gospel singing from two local groups.
Moving the Pews
We have made plans to repair the carpet wrinkles in preparation for the December Church Tour. Help is needed this Sat., Sept. 6 at 10:00 a.m. to move all the small pews out of the sanctuary for this work. If you can give us about one hour this Sat. , it would be appreciated. We will have some furniture dollies, so now we need hands and feet!!
At our Administrative Board meeting on Aug. 24, the time of our worship service was brought up for discussion. Some members would like to continue with worship at 9:00 a.m. Other members hope that changing it to 10:00 a.m. would bring inactive members back to worship and appeal to other persons to join us for worship.
We are asking all of you to seriously consider which time works best for you. As your pastor, I will be here at whatever time you wish to worship. Please discuss it with your family members.
Our next Board meeting is Sept. 21 after our 9:00 a.m. worship service. All members are asked to be present to vote. If you are unable to be present for the meeting, members may send a note to the pastor at the P. O. Box to register your choice. Be sure to mail it by Tues., Sept. 16. All others are invited to send their opinions.
Whatever time is chosen, we must all support it with our presence as we continue in ministry to the community.
You Are Missed
We have missed you at our worship services, Sunday School classes and fellowship events when you have not been with us. We know that summer is the time for vacations, family get-togethers, and time at the river. We are glad that you take time from your regular routine to enjoy the events and activities of the summer season. But we do miss you and want you to know that we think of you and pray for you during this season of rest and relaxation.
We would be remiss if we did not mention that the expenses of the church do continue each week whether we have many in attendance or only a few.
Typically our giving decreases over the summer months. We would encourage you to pray and remember your promise to support the church with your prayers, your presence, your gifts, and your service as you return to your regular fall schedule. You may catch up your giving by mailing a check to the P. O. Box.
Mizpah is here serving you and the community all year long—only with your help.
If you have items that need to be included in the budget for next year, please let Jean Mitchell know by Sept. 28.
All leaders of the church are asked to let Betty Jo know by Sept.28 whether or not they wish to continue in their roles for 2009.
Every fall, our District Superintendent meets with us for our annual business meeting, called the Charge Conference, to review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the church, receive reports, handle certain financial matters, and adopt goals for the coming year. The leaders of the church attend this session and it is open to members and visitors.
This year, we will have our Charge Conference on Wed., Oct. 29 at 7:00 pm. Plan now to be with us for this important meeting with our District Superintendent, Rev. Mark Ogren.
